Forget about “how did Ace survive?”, the real question is: “how did Steve survive?”

Longer answer:
It can not be a normal flashover effect because we don´t see any smoke in or comming out of the cellar. While that would have killed Steve 100% (CO concentration and next to no O²), it not being there makes this more a last warning from the being which closed the door.
Are you basing your evaluation on the absence of a digital effect Andy may or may not have been able to produce… or just forgotten?
An explosion when opening isn’t flashover, it’s backdraft. Flashover is when the area is so hot material will start burning without a spark. Backdraft is when a closed room burns off all the oxygen and just smolders instead of burning. Because the room is in a partial vacuum, when you open it air rushes in causing the smolder to burst into flames with an explosion.
Because the explosion is caused by the room being airless, the likelihood of someone surviving is not good.
le Yamof Ool:- Just saw an episode of CSI (believe it was a repeat of original, Gil still had dark hair, and believe Warrick was still there), anyways, in it some guy was talking about how didn’t set the fire he was accused of, and that the fire was caused by a flashover when he opened the door (no mention of backdraft)
