Like many a Christmas carol, the Twelve Days of Christmas is probably one you’ve gotten memorized.

It’s a fun song, but it’s all about getting. How about a giving song instead? So, here’s one I wrote. For those waging war on Christmas, I suppose one could substitute “giving” for “Christmas.”

On the first day of Christmas my true love taught to me: the true reason for the season.

On the second day of Christmas my true love gave to me: two mistletoe kisses.

On the third day of Christmas my true love showed to me: three giving trees.

On the fourth day of Christmas my true love handed me: four coins for the pot.

On the fifth day of Christmas my true love brought with me: five toys for tots.

On the sixth day of Christmas my true love got for those in need: six winter coats.

On the seventh day of Christmas my true love went with me: serving homeless meals.

On the eighth day of Christmas my love gave for my family: eight village goats.

On the ninth day of Christmas my true love babysat with me: nine nieces napping.

On the tenth day of Christmas my true love watched for me: ten nephews playing.

On the eleventh day of Christmas we made deliveries: eleven Meals on Wheels.

On the twelfth day of Christmas my true love brought to me: twelve thankful cards.
