She would have done better to leave it at the apology and come back another day to request the favor. Although a different phrasing might have gone over better. Requesting suggestions on how she could make things right between herself and her husband would have been a much better approach.
It does kind of take the starch out of the apology, doesn’t it?
I suspect she still meant the apology, but it also demonstrates one of the flaws if just forgiving with no penance. Then there are those who will never forgive themselves without working through some form of penance.
