Sitting at a restaurant table, Rocky help up a sheet of paper and noted, "Ace? You didn't put your last name on this."

"Oh," said Ace, "I don't have a last name."

"I've always wondered about that," added Carly.

"It's no picnic I tell you," declared Ace. "Mom never married. And when everyone was pressuring her about who my father was, she got stubborn.

"So she refused to put a last name on my birth certificate. She's the most stubborn person you're ever likely to meet."

Ace noticed Carly and Rocky's mute response.

"And," he went, "if there's a cross-looking, plump, strawberry bloned standing behind me, that's probably her."

"Pleasingly plump," the woman standing behind Ace said.
