A safety feature that locks up and announces the fact that your aiming at a friend is both a wonderful idea and potentially very stupid. Friendly fire is always a hazard in a large battle situation where there is little time to pick and choose your targets, but depending on the volume of the announcement you firearm could easily give away your position to the enemy and get you killed in the time it takes to adjust your aim. Also it would make firearms useless in a mutiny situation as neither side would be able to use them against their opponents.

The problem was that both sides missles were designed to take an indirect path, so the only way to not shoot down your own missles was the IFF signal (identify friend/ foe). Since both sides were using identical French designed missles, and reseting the IFF violated the warranty, the anti-missle system thought ALL the missles were friendly.

This is a work of fiction. Any similarity to persons or cats, living, dead, undead, artificial, spectral, or semi-divine is coincidental. Really! I don’t know anyone like these people!
