So, funny story about language.

When I first met my ex-wife, I din’t speak any Korean, and her English was next to non-existent. The weird thing is we never had much trouble communicating. That doesn’t mean that situations didn’t come up.

Back when we first started staying together in her little studio apartment (Ace’s Korean apartment is modelled on it) she started telling me how convenient a refrigerator would be and that we should get one.

I said, “I guess so.”

I figured we’d go shopping for one at the base exchange (like a department store), but I get home and there’s a brand new fridge in the corner. I hadn’t exactly said no, but she was surprised at my ambivalence. She pulled out the Korean-English Dictionary and showed me that “Agaseiyo” (spelling) is something akin to “Heck, yeah!”
